Usually I make a 2 piece mold though and just lay the sprue on the separation wall [still do the tipping bit], so that when I open the mold, you can just pop it out, but it is a usefull method if you can't keep it in the separation wall.
Wish I could describe it better, but you probably know all of this already.
Yeah.. I did 2 part molds when I did plaster. I fully cut open the silicone molds I did for the army men and regretted it. It gave a lot more chance for the molds to warp and distort with pressure when getting put back together... I didn't have any trouble, with keying, at getting them lined up though. But this time I just cut what I needed to get her out and left it as one piece.
Thanks for the input - I really enjoy hearing from other experienced artists.
yeah, with a title like that, I just couldn't pass up this project!!!
This is coming very nicely. Beautiful curvy shaped body. I like how her left arm is lightly resting on her hip like that.
Are you worried about her ankles snapping or something?
I'm worried that the figure won't hold up well in the long run being that it's balancing on such a small point... but the resin is pretty rigid and lighter - currently if I don't watch it the knees start to bend in funky directions and the ankle clay keeps splitting a little where the brass tubing joins the armature wire.
I've also never done multiple piece casts. She has tubing from the bottom of the ankles into the base and where the wings attach... so she'll be in four pieces that will need to be assembled. Since the only casting in resin I've done is the little army of men, I'm just cautious.
